Hi and welcome to the University of York Volleyball Club! This is where you want to go to play Volleyball during your time at university – no matter at which level. We provide women’s and men’s competitive teams as well a beginner’s group if you want to try out something new. Women’s and men’s first team compete in second and first BUCS Divisions North, respectively. Furthermore, there is a beginners group training twice a week; this is the right place for you to try something new or play volleyball at a non-competitive level.
Over the past years, UYVC established itself as one of the most successful clubs on campus with regular presence among the
final 16 teams of the country and appearances in the final rounds of the student cup. In addition to regular league matches, there are more highlights in our season: every year we compete in the traditional Roses tournament (vs. Lancaster). Over the last year, UYVC was able to underline its supremacy in this competition and is looking forward to maintaining the competitive edge in the future.
Off court, the volleyball club might well be seen as one of the most sociable ones in the university landscape. More or less regular socials have brought unforgettable moments about. Formal socials like the annual Christmas Dinner and President’s Weekend round off the tradition that has been fostered over years.
If you feel all this is for you and you want to become part of it, we are looking forward to meeting you. There are regular training sessions in the main hall of the sports centre on campus Thursday and Sunday night. Also, you can get in touch by e-mailing us on

It promises to be another exciting year for the University of York's Mens 1st team as we look to improve on a successful season last year. We play in BUCS division 1 North, arguably the toughest region in the country. Last year a record 3rd place finish proved that a season of hard training paid off, qualifying for the last 16 stage of the national competition, where we drew a tasty away tie at Queens University, Belfast, unfortunately suffering a narrow defeat. However, as one of the top 16 teams in the country last year, we target more knock-out stage action, along with a promising student cup run. The club enjoyed great success at the anual and historic Roses tournament, where the mens team came out victorious in a thrilling high-action match against Lancaster. With another exciting season on its way, the squad cannot wait to get back onto the court!

The University of York Women’s 1st team currently plays in the Northern Conference of the BUCS second division and managed to finish 3rd last season. Whilst missing the qualification for the Student Cup Finals by one place was a slight disappointment, making it into the quarter finals of the Women’s Northern Conference Cup Knockouts 2010/2011 and, most importantly, winning the match against rival university Lancaster at Roses for the first time in years more than compensated for the loss. As always the Presidents weekend towards the end of third term proved to be a memorable occasion, giving new club members the chance to meet some of their predecessors and providing a weekend of volleyball fun for the entire club. All in all the team dispersed for the summer in high spirits and is eagerly awaiting the next season!
