Reach out

Are you wondering how you can reach a wider audience, even within your own university, when it comes to things like promoting your sports team or advertising a fundraising or social event? With the growing multiculturalism in Britain, it's not uncommon for there to be a considerable number of non-English-speaking students at your school, and residents in your city. Sure, they will understand varying levels of English, but why not reach out to them directly by contacting them in their mother tongue? A small gesture like getting a German translation of the flyer for your upcoming dance will go a long way in getting people from the German community to participate.

You may not consider this a priority, but think how many more people would take notice, and even consider your club in a different light, if you publish advertising with a Spanish translation or perhaps reach a little further and include, for the people from the Netherlands, a Dutch translation. This is similar enough to Afrikaans that South Africans should be able to read it with no problems.

Maybe your next fundraiser is based around a culinary event? A French translation of your menu will add a touch of genuine class to your event, and show your guests that you're willing to go that one step further. Or perhaps it's just a casual pizza night? Try getting a professional Italian translation of your invitation to give it an extra push. The variations on this theme are endless, and it is just up to you and your team to come up with the ideas. A quick email to a translator and in a very short time you could have a unique poster or e-invitation to draw in a new crowd. They say that any publicity is good publicity, and in the majority of cases, it's true!
