On Sunday the men's team were crowned BUSA Knockout Trophy Winners at Loughborough University after beating Bournemouth 3-2 in a hard fought final. The weekend began on Saturday with a semi-final clash against Glasgow Caledonian. Early in the game both teams were fairly evenly matched with York having a slight upper hand. During the first set one of the players from Glasgow injured a knee and with only 5 other players had to continue to hobble around court. After a long delay for physio treatment the game was won 3-0 by York. Sunday afternoon saw the final against Bournemouth. Both teams were up for the game and a close first set went to Bournemouth. York fought back with the next two sets due to strong team play and atmosphere on court. The fourth set went to Bournemouth but York finally clinched the game with a good run of play in the fifth set. Congratulations and well played to the whole team, as everyone contributed to the win at some point in the season! Bad luck to Bournemouth - it was a enjoyable game to play in - apart from when members of the opposition try to pull down peoples shorts on court! He was lucky to just get away with a yellow card!! That's the first time that the University of York has won one of the BUSA volleyball competitions in their 40 year history and continues the unbeated run in BUSA this season. Roll on Lancaster for the Roses games! |

The new issue of 'York Vision' came out Tuesday and the volleyball club has a full report on our successes. The report, on page 36, written by our women's captain and secretary Jess Toale describes the year so far for the volleyball club and includes a picture from the recent Varsity game. Also in this issue on the back page is an article titled 'Volleyball team fly BUSA flag for York' in which the volleyball club are one of only three teams to get through the knockout stages of the BUSA competitions. Read the paper online at York Vision Online (Its the old issue at the moment so be patient!). |
