The Club

The Club shall be called University of York Volleyball Club (UYVC) and shall require an annual membership of at least 20 people.

Objectives

The Club’s objectives are:

  • to promote the sport of Volleyball within the University
  • to represent the University in BUSA competitions
  • to provide practice sessions for the team as well as for beginners
  • to raise the level of technical and tactical ability of its members, whether team players or beginners

Membership

Any member of the Athletic Union can become a member of the Club on paying a subscription fee each year. All members of the Club must be members of the Athletic Union, including non-students and coaches. All members of the Club must obey the rules of the Athletic Union.

The Club fee is subject to revision by the Club Committee. The fee for the year 2006/2007 is £15. Students wishing to join for only one term can do so for £5. The full £15 fee must be paid to join for more than one term.

Equal Opportunities

The Club shall be an equal opportunities organisation, and therefore will not disallow membership on grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation or age.

Committee

All business of the Volleyball Club shall be controlled by the Committee, which shall consist of the following Officers and Team Captains, elected by members of the club.

The Officers shall be:

  • President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Women’s Captain
  • Men’s Captain
  • Social Secretary
  • Merchandise Representative
  • Webmaster
  • Ordinary Member

The Exec Officers (President, Secretary and Treasurer) shall be elected at the Club’s Annual General Meeting, held in the Summer Term.

The positions of Men’s Captain and Women’s Captain can be held by any team member, including Committee members. The Captains shall be elected at the beginning of the Autumn Term, prior to the start of BUSA competitions.

The positions of Social Secretary, Merchandise Representative and Webmaster may be held by one or more members, including Exec Officers. They will be elected in the Autumn Term.

The Ordinary Member will be elected at the start of the Autumn Term. Exec Officers and final year members may not stand for the position, ensuring continuity for the club’s future.

President

  • The role of the President is to:
  • represent the Club at the AU General Meetings
  • organise the Club’s AU Mart stall
  • booking sports hall for training sessions at beginning of each term
  • obtain referees for matches
  • organise purchase and delivery of equipment throughout the year
  • call and chair Committee Meetings

Secretary

  • The role of the Secretary is to:
  • take minutes in Committee Meetings
  • represent the Club at the AU General Meetings when the President is unable to do so.
  • organise the Club’s AU Mart stall
  • organise charity tournaments
  • organise tournaments/tours
  • keep an up-to-date Club membership list

Treasurer

The role of the Treasurer is to:

  • organise the finances of the club
  • claim money back for transport/referee fees
  • keep track of any financial issue
  • allocate the budget given by the AU to the Club
  • prepare the budget for the following year

Captains

The role of the Captains is to:

  • choose a team before every fixture
  • make sure enough players turn up for fixtures
  • arrange or confirm transport arrangements for away fixtures
  • arrange or confirm hall bookings for home fixtures
  • collect match fees
  • find sponsorship for the Club/teams

Social Secretary

The role of the Social Secretary is to:

  • organise social events for the Club

Merchandise Representative

The role of the Merchandise Representative is to:

  • organise purchase and delivery of all merchandise bought by the club, including team kits, etc…
  • organise purchase and delivery of club merchandise purchased by club members

Ordinary Member

The role of the Ordinary Member is to:

  • be available to help out other Committee members if needed

Election of Committee Members

All positions are voluntary and may only be held by members of the Club who are students of the University of York, unless prior consent has been given by the Athletic Union.

All positions shall be decided by a simple majority vote by those present and voting at a General Meeting. Officers are elected for one year, but may be re-elected.

Match Fees

Match fees for 2006/07 will be £1.50 for home games and £3 for away games.

General Meetings

The Athletic Union and all Club members should be informed of General Meetings of the Club with at least 7 days notice.

10 members shall form a quorum.

A majority of two thirds is needed to pass a constitutional amendment or a simple majority if it is an ordinary motion.

Only members of the Club who are students of the University of York shall have be eligible to vote. Each member shall have one vote.

A General Meeting need not be quorate for a decision to be taken, but such decisions shall not be binding over any meeting or future committee.

Any member may require a General Meeting to be held provided he/she has the support, in writing, of five other members.

In a General Meeting, Club Officers will give a report to the club membership and any constitutional amendments or ordinary motions will be voted on.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM shall be held in the Summer Term. The Athletic Union and all members will be given a 7 days notice of the date and time of this meeting. The President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer will be elected at the AGM.
