Sorry that the website has not feature much news lately, I have been extremely busy with my course! I thought I would write a quick summary of last terms events and hopefully the news will be more forthcoming this term! The men's team have had a mixed season so far, winning 3 of the 7 games played. Mathematically the team is now safe in Division 1, a feat in itself, which is always difficult to acheive! The team had a number of hard games this season which wasn't helped by the late start of our university. The last two games have been 5 setters at home, one of which was won against Manchester and lost against Newcastle. The very fact that the team can go 5 sets against teams of Newcastles calibre is good for us! The women's team also had mixed fortunes. The team currently only has 8 members, most of which have only started playing with the team this year. The initial going was slow, but after an unfortunate injury the team has managed to win its first game against Sheffield. Hopefully in the last two games of the season the team can repeat this and move up a very close division. The men's team also took part in the English Volleyball Association's Student Cup. The qualifiers took place in November in Manchester where the men's team took all 5 games of the day to qualify for the finals. The day allowed all of the team members to play, with many playing up to 11 sets of volleyball. The finals will take place in February in Leeds, the team are hoping to beat last years finish of 13th place. Other events in the club included a couple of social events, firstly to the Jumbo Chinese Buffet (a yearly pilgrimage!), and then the term ended with the annual volleyball Christmas party! At the party we held the normal tacky Christmas gift secret santa, where everyone has to buy the tackiest gift possible and wrap it up for others. This year Roman Ashauer took first place with his tacky pink poodle, a much improved effort over his previous two attempts. The committee met twice last term and the minutes can be found on 'The Club' page, please take a read to see if there is anything that interests you! That's all for now, hopefully news will be more forthcoming next term! |
