Last weekend saw the annual Roses contest take place between York and Lancaster. The volleyball club took part in three games over the course of the weekend, winning valuable points to help York take the overall title 143-103 points. On Saturday the men's and women's games took place and on Sunday the mixed game (3 men and 3 women) took place. The results were as follows: Women: Lost 3-0 Men: Won 3-0 Mixed: Won 3-1 The women's game was always going to be tough with Lancaster gaining promotion from the second division into the first division this season. The women fought hard but couldn't quite beat the single strong hitter on the Lancaster team. The men's game was a different story with Lancaster a whole division below York in the league. The men took control from the start and with everyone in the team taking part demolished Lancaster 3-0 within 1 hour. The mixed game is always difficult as both teams have no mixed experience for the rest of the year. Lancaster started strong as York didn't know what team to play. The second set saw major changes and York took control. From then on the result was certain and York won the next 3 sets easily taking the game 3-1.
