Match Results

The Men's team have had a mixed start to the season. Their first game against Sheffield saw a comfortable 3-0 win after only having trained together for an hour. However, the lack of training time made itself known in the next 2 games against Manchester and Sheffield Hallam with the team losing in straight sets. This week sees the men travelling to Liverpool to face their first team. Confidence is high after seeing Liverpool lose to Sheffield.

It has been a tough start for the women this year with 2 away games and 2 losses. The first, versus Bradford, was not helped by the lack of clear court markings. Against Sheffield the women had to cope with sun in the eyes and a tough opposition. The season is set to get better as the team develops and moulds together. Next week's game against Bradford at home should show the improvements seen in training.

Both teams will be travelling to Leeds next Sunday (23rd November) to compete in the Student Cup qualifiers. More news on that after the day.

Elections

Elections took place earlier this term to complete the committee. The positions elected were:
  • Men's Captain: Jack Butcher
  • Women's Captain: Lisa Breitschuh
  • Social Secretary: Janette Chow
  • Webmaster: Jon Stammers (unchanged and uncontested...)
  • Ordinary Members: Annelies Vredeveldt and Maiko Uesaki
  • Press and Publicity: Anastasia Harunova
There were also elections held amongst the beginners to elect a representative to sit on the club committee. This is a new position for this year to allow the thoughts and needs of the beginners to be voiced by one of their own. Nicola Pinnell stood forward to take the position and was elected.

Many congratulations to all of the new committee members!

Wine Tasting Social

Monday of week 5 saw the first "official" social of the term. It took the form of a wine "tasting" but there was no spitting the wine out at this very sophisticated event. I'm sure that everyone who attended will agree it was a great night and thanks should definitely go to Soph for arranging such a brilliant event! No doubt a similar evening will take place in the near future, let's just hope that "The Rep" can remember the next one...
